There are games in this industry that deserve to be called a ripoff with all the negative connotation, but this is not one of them. In terms of the modern dictionary definition, yes it is a 'ripoff,' but that's not inherently a bad thing. It strips all the hard work from a work of art, especially when that work of art is actually pretty good on it's own. I don't think it's ever been used with positive connotation. I view the word 'ripoff' as a very degrading term.
